As successful as Windows 7 has been, everyone has been wondering when Microsoft will release Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. BIOS Option Of The Week - AGP to DRAM Prefetch
11:17 PM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

Since 1999, we have been developing the BIOS Optimization Guide, affectionately known as the BOG. From a meager beginning of a single page, it now covers over 400 BIOS options. As old BOG readers will know, we started offering two editions of the BOG since Revision 8.0 - a simplified edition and the complete edition.

Normally, the complete edition is only available to subscribers who help sponsor the development of the guide through a small fee. However, that changes today! From now on, we will post a BIOS option from the complete edition of the BIOS Optimization Guide every weekend.

This week, we will be taking a look at the AGP to DRAM Prefetch BIOS setting.

Corsair® Launches New Ultra-High Speed, High Capacity USB Flash Drives‏
06:48 PM MYT   |   Posted by: ChampionLLY

Hannover, Germany. March 2, 2010 — Corsair, a worldwide leader in high-performance computer memory, power supplies and flash memory products, including solid-state drives, today announced the Flash Voyager® GTR family of USB flash drives. These USB flash drives feature outstanding speed in a variety of densities.

The quad-channel architecture employed by the Flash Voyager GTR series delivers read speeds up to 34MB/s and write speeds up to 28MB/s, approaching the maximum transfer rates supported by the USB 2.0 interface. The outstanding performance numbers translate into genuine, real-world results. In the Corsair Labs, using a typical Windows 7-based PC, the Flash Voyager GTR 128GB was tested head-to-head against a 128GB USB drive from one of the world’s largest suppliers of UFDs. For the first test, a folder containing 8,125 MP3 files was copied to the Flash Voyager GTR in only 39 minutes, while the competitor took over 66 minutes to complete the same task. The second test copied a documents folder containing 37,000 small DOC files, which took just 6 minutes on the Flash Voyager GTR versus more than 37 minutes on the competitor’s USB flash drive. Details of this testing can be found here.

“As we continue to digitize the sights, sounds, movies, and business of our everyday lives, we need better and better ability to transport our data and access it quickly,” stated John Beekley, VP of Technical Marketing at Corsair. “The Flash Voyager GTR combines the best features of a USB flash drive and the performance of an external hard drive to provide the ultimate data portability tool.”

The Flash Voyager GTR drives will be available in densities of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. They feature a durable and water-resistant rubber housing to protect the drive against accidental damage.

The Flash Voyager GTR series is available immediately from Corsair’s authorized distributors and resellers worldwide, and is backed by a 10-Year Limited Warranty. Complete customer support via telephone, email, forum and Tech Support Express is also available.

OCZ’s SSDs not only continue to redefine storage performance, reliability, and power efficiency, but also address a wide range of applications from top-tier data management to personal notebooks. At CeBIT, OCZ will demonstrate how its SSDs can transform businesses still relying on traditional hard drives for storage infrastructures and OEM solutions. Implementing the latest technology, next-generation OCZ SSDs characterized as Vertex LE, Vertex 2, and Agility 2, deliver versatility in the management of all file sizes, and are ideal for customers who place a premium on optimal productivity, low power consumption and total cost of ownership (TCO).

With a proven track record in the design and manufacture of SATA-based solid state drives, OCZ is now addressing the demand for even higher-performing PCI-Express and serial-attached SCSI (SAS) SSDs in the enterprise space, including current options such as the innovative Z-Drive series, which will be showcased in its fourth-generation design. The sophisticated drives feature an innovative, high-performance design to serve the needs of the entire range of large-scale computing environments, from server arrays to the small business.

OCZ remains committed to the enthusiast community and will be demonstrating the cutting-edge Enyo USB 3.0 portable SSD. Geared toward the early adopting power-user, the OCZ Enyo sets the bar high for external storage devices with speeds that are 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Likewise, the latest OCZ power supplies offer industry-leading efficiency and stability to support a wealth of power-hungry components and push high-end systems to the limit.

Western Digital RE4-GP 2 TB Hard Disk Drive Review
11:24 PM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

The biggest difference between the Western Digital RE4 hard disk drive and the Western Digital RE4-GP hard disk drive is the spindle speed. The "regular" RE4 drive spins at 7,200 RPM while the RE4-GP spins at a slower fixed speed between 5,400 RPM and 7,200 RPM. Everything else remains identical between the two drives.

Although the WD RE4-GP may appear to be a RAID-optimized version of the WD Caviar Green desktop hard disk drive, it is far more than just the Caviar Green with TLER support. Let’s find out just how well it performs against the 10,000 RPM WD VelociRaptor and other leading desktop hard disk drives.

x264 HD Benchmark 3.15
12:34 AM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

The new x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 is here!

This is the improved version of the x264 HD Benchmark 2.0 benchmark which has become a standard CPU benchmark for Tech ARP as well as many other hardware enthusiasts.

The new x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 ups the ante by using the latest r1342 x264 encoder as well as other changes under the hood. This makes the x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 the new best tool for testing the full capabilities of modern multi-core processors.

Do note that due to the changes, the results from x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 are NOT comparable with results from older versions of the benchmark.

In addition to the release of the benchmark, we will be compiling benchmark results for this new version. There are now 80 CPUs in this article, but we need MORE results! So please contribute your new benchmark results to this project!
Here are the changes in this update :

- Improved the x264 HD Benchmark 3 Render Speed (Average) results by showing the Pass 1 : Pass 2 ratio (mouse-over the chart to see the difference).
- Added the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 desktop processor (overclocked to 3.26 GHz).
- Added the Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 mobile processor.
- Added the Intel Core 2 Duo T4300 mobile processor.
- Added the improved results of the AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE desktop processor.
Check out the latest results!

Western Digital AV-GP 2 TB Hard Disk Drive Review
11:18 PM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

Once upon a time, a 40 MB hard disk drive was considered state-of-the-art. Now, Western Digital gives us a hard disk drive of the same physical size, but with 50,000 times the capacity! We present - the 2 TB Western Digital AV-GP hard disk drive!

The 2 TB AV-GP is an audio-video version of the the WD Caviar Green hard disk drive. Like its Green Power compatriots, it features a slower spindle speed of between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM, which greatly reduces its power consumption. However, in addition to common Green Power features, it also boasts several AV-specific features. Let’s find out just how well this hard disk drive performs!
