Marissa Mayer on the future of Google
02:09 PM MYT   |   Posted by: Dashken

Pretty much every product that Google works on has to go through gatekeeper Marissa Mayer, who decides whether it’s ready to be released or needs more work.

She even approves every single Google Doodle that adorns the search giant’s homepages around the world. From being hired as the first female engineer nine and a half years ago to becoming one of the key decision makers at Google, she’s come a long way.

"We were very small, just 20 people," Mayer, now Google’s vice president of search products and user experience, recalls. "There was a tremendous amount of energy, scruffy entrepreneurialism and a sense of hope. We really felt we were working on something that might change the world. We were all very excited to be working on such an important problem and we thought it would really have an impact. Even from that vantage point, though, it wasn’t clear to us what type of impact it would have." (more..)

BIOS Option Of The Week
03:36 AM MYT   |   Posted by: Dashken

Since 1999, we have been developing the BIOS Optimization Guide, affectionately known as the BOG. From a meager beginning of a single page, it now covers over 400 BIOS options. As old BOG readers will know, we started offering two editions of the BOG since Revision 8.0 - a simplified edition and the complete edition.

Normally, the complete edition is only available to subscribers who help sponsor the development of the guide through a small fee. However, that changes today! From now on, we will post a BIOS option from the complete edition of the BIOS Optimization Guide every Sunday.

This week, we will be taking a look at the Graphics Aperture Size BIOS option.

NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO to NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Mod Guide
02:05 AM MYT   |   Posted by: Adrian Wong

3 years ago, ATI and NVIDIA graphics card line-up was not as complex as it is today. Many of their graphics cards were actually using the same GPU, so enthusiasts could mod their lower-end cards, using software or hardware methods, into higher-end graphcs cards.

When ATI and NVIDIA began using many different GPUs for different product lines, graphics card modding fell out of favour because enthusiasts could only overclock their graphics cards to maximize their potential.

However, a method for soft-modding an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO into an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB has been found. This mod instantly gives you a GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB card at half the cost!
