After Russia started bombing Syrian rebels, there have been numerous reports of civilian casualties. Here is a heart-wrenching example – a photo that shows a distraught father crying over the bodies of his three young children killed by the Russians in Aleppo, Syria. The caption in English reads :
A father cries over the deaths of his 3 children in Aleppo, Syria after a Russian attack. Allah protect our brethren from the cruelties of the cursed army of the infidels. Amen.
This is not war. This is a war crime! But before you get off your cushy chair to sign up to fight against the Russians, let me advise you that the story above is not true.
Are You Telling Me That’s A Fake Photo?
Sadly, the photo is genuine. The three poor children are dead, their families torn apart by their untimely, violent deaths. The father’s grief was real and unfeigned.
As much as I dislike the Russian military intervention in support of Bashar al-Assad, I have to set the record straight. The Russians did NOT kill those children. They were not even killed in Syria, much less the city of Aleppo.
Then Who Killed Those Children?
The children were amongst the 313 Palestinian children killed during Israel’s Operation Cast Lead in 2009. These three were specifically killed by an Israeli tank shell on the 5th of January 2009. The picture was taken by Reuters at the al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip.
Although some (false) accounts claim that the man is the father to all three children, that is also false. The man in the picture was the father of one of the three boys in the picture.
Operation Cast Lead lasted 23 days. At the end, 313 children were killed, with another 1606 injured. Here are some truly depressing statistics on the Palestinian children killed during Operation Cast Lead (courtesy of Global Research) :
- most were at home or nearby
- around 1/3 were girls, and the rest boys
- almost 15% were under the age of 5, and another 1/4th were between 5 and 10
- the remainder were between 11 and 17
- 46% were killed in northern Gaza, 38% in Gaza City, 9% in Khan Yunis and Rafah
Were Any Children Killed By The Russians In Syria?
Unfortunately, Russia’s hands are not clean either. The Russians began their air campaign in Syria on the 30th of September 2015. Although they claimed to attack only ISIS / ISIL targets, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted that they were indiscriminately bombing civilians.
By the 23rd of November 2015, Russian airstrikes killed 403 civilians, including 97 Syrian children. This is a screenshot of a video showing one of the 8 children killed by the Russians when they launched their airstrikes on the city of Homs in Syria.
This particular Russian airstrike occurred on the 23rd of October 2015. It killed 17 people, including 5 women and 8 children. Watch and weep. While it is possible that some of those killed were ISIS / ISIL fighters, we can be certain that none of the 8 children killed by the Russians deserved to die.
We Must Kill Those Russian Infidels!
I cannot understand why some people must make everything about religion. Even the tragic deaths of innocent young children.
No, right after they wipe the tears from their eyes, they start blaming the “infidels” for those deaths.
Yes, many of the Russians are infidels as far as Islam is concerned, and they are responsible for these deaths. But let’s be very clear about something else too – the Russians are bombing the Syrian people at the expressed invitation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Don’t just blame the Russians, please blame Bashar al-Assad as well. If he didn’t invite the Russian “infidels” to bomb his countrymen, would they be in Syria launching airstrikes? Those children killed by the Russians are his fault. He should not get a free pass just because he’s a fellow Muslim.
