Another Faux Pas By The Director-General Of Information?

Spread the love

We were so engrossed with our coverage of Bersih 4.0 that we missed another faux pas by the Director-General of the Department Of Information, Dato’ Haji Ibrahim Abdul Rahman. If you recall, he was the one who accused Bersih of burning the Malaysian flag, only to be soundly denigrated on social media.

The Director-General Of Information Strikes Again

Apparently, on the same day he deleted more than 2 years worth of posts, he made another faux pas by posting fake pictures of gay men at the Bersih 2.0 that was held in 2011. He shared it as example of how “Bersih is dirty” :

Here is the larger version of the “Bersih 2.0 gay pride parade” shared by the Director-General of the Department Of Information, Dato’ Haji Ibrahim Abdul Rahman.

Embarrassingly, those photos were posted way back in 2011, and have already been debunked as fakes. They were simple edited photos of pictures taken at the 7th Taiwan Pride gay parade that was held on the 31st of October, 2009. Take a look at the original photos :

It is really disgraceful for someone who heads the Department of Information to keep posting false information. After all, he has assistants and researchers who can help him check his facts before posting?

Dato’ Haji Ibrahim Abdul Rahman should remember that he is heading the Department of Information, not the Department of Misinformation. If he cannot stop making such foolish mistakes, he should step down and let someone more qualified take over.

Shout-Out

We would like to credit Jason Chan for sharing Ery Rahim‘s post, which appears to be private. Ery was the one who took the screenshot that showed Dato’ Haji Ibrahim Abdul Rahman sharing the fake Bersih 2.0 gay parade, before the Director-General deleted his posts.
