Truth : Those Are Not Baby Birds Feeding Old Birds!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS circulating on WhatsApp and social media, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : The Larger Bird Is A Cuckoo Bird

The video does not show baby birds feeding their old parents. In fact, the smaller bird is the “parent” of the larger bird.

Fact #2 : The Larger Bird Is A Baby Bird

The larger bird is actually a baby cuckoo bird – a cuckoo chick.

It only looks larger than the “parent” bird, because it is not of the same species.

Fact #3 : Cuckoo Birds Are Brood Parasites

Some 59 cuckoo bird species are brood parasites – they don’t make nests of their own. Instead, the female cuckoo bird lays her eggs in the nest of other birds.

The eggs of these brood parasite cuckoo birds hatch earlier than the host bird’s eggs. The cuckoo chick grows up faster, and often evicts (kills) the host bird’s real chicks.

Cuckoo chicks are also very greedy, with a begging call that encourages the host parent to keep feeding it. So it grows very fast.
