The Malaysian government detected four new clusters – Jalan Bomba, Jalan Utama, Benteng PK and Bakawali!

Here are the details of these four new COVID-19 clusters in Malaysia!

Jalan Bomba Cluster In Sabah

The index case for the Jalan Bomba Cluster in Sabah is Case 11,110 – a 23-year old Malaysian male, with history of travel to Semporna, Sabah on 20 September 2020.

He experienced fever and cough, and was found to be positive for COVID-19 on 28 September 2020, and admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

Screening of his close contacts found another two COVID-19 positive cases on 28 September 2020.

The Sandakan Health Office is tracing their close contacts, and investigating the source of this new cluster.

Jalan Utara Cluster In Sabah

The Jalan Utara Cluster in Sabah was detected through screening of healthcare workers at a training institute in Sandakan, Sabah.

Two healthcare workers were confirmed COVID-19 positive on 28 September 2020. They were not symptomatic, and were admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

The Sandakan Health Office is tracing their close contacts, and investigating the source of this new cluster.

Benteng PK Cluster In Selangor

The Benteng PK Cluster in Selangor was detected through the screening of undocumented immigrants (PATI) in Klang, Selangor from 16 until 24 September 2020.

Eight undocumented immigrants were confirmed COVID-19 positive, together with a police officer, on 28 September 2020. They have all been admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

As of 29 September 2020, 148 individuals were screened in the Benteng PK cluster, with these results :

  • 9 positive cases
  • 139 negative cases

Bakawali Cluster In Johor

The index cases are a Malaysian husband-wife couple with history of travel to Semporna, Sabah on 13 until 18 September 2020.

On 24 September 2020, they both experienced fever, flu and cough and sought treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru.

They were confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 on 26 September 2020, and admitted to the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital.

As of 29 September 2020, 25 individuals were screened, with these results :

  • 4 positive cases
  • 13 negative cases
  • 8 individuals still awaiting results

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation
