A PSA on the Bonus Rakyat Pulau Pinang (BR1PP) has gone viral on social media. It claims that every Penang resident within a certain age range is entitled to a gratuity of RM 750. You may have read it, and even shared it in other WhatsApp and Facebook groups. After all, you are always the helpful sort, aren’t you? 😀
The Bonus Rakyat Pulau Pinang (BR1PP)
This is an example of the PSA on the BR1PP (Bonus Rakyat Pulau Pinang) going around on WhatsApp :
Here is the English translation (with proper grammar and typo correction) :
BR1PP Is A Hoax
First of all, there is no such thing as BR1PP or the Bonus Rakyat Pulau Pinang. It is merely a hoax that is either designed to troll the Penang state government, or the federal government’s BR1M or Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (1Malaysia People’s Aid) scheme.
How Do You Know It’s A Hoax?
Well, aside from the fact that you won’t be able to find any reference to BR1PP in the mainstream media, or even the official Penang state government website, here are some other clues.
The second you see that the link does not originate from the official Penang state government domain of penang.gov.my, you should immediately rule it out as a hoax. All official programs that the Penang state government runs will originate from their official domain. There is no need to use an odd third-party domain like i.chzbgr.com, which probably stands for cheeseburger.
In fact, if you go to i.chzbgr.com domain, you will see that it uses a cheeseburger icon. Yummy… The domain itself is only set-up to show the word OK. The maxW500 subdomain in the link doesn’t even have a page set-up.
But the proverbial clincher is what you see when you actually load the link https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/7423771648/hF090433B. This is what you will see :
Yes, that’s a Meat Loaf meme screaming at you that you have been fooled. 😀
