COVID-19 vaccination for children in Malaysia will begin in the middle of September 2021

Who Will Qualify?

Where Will It Take Place?

COVID-19 vaccination for children in Malaysia will take place at these locations :

  • Special PPVs (SPPVs) – vaccination centres in hospitals and medical institutions
  • Vaccination centres (PPV) in health clinics and other earmarked PPVs
  • Outreach programmes, like immunisations in schools

The vaccine will be distributed to every state, and onwards to the identified vaccination centres.

Pre-Vaccination Assessment

Pre-vaccination assessment by medical officers or specialists will be conducted for three categories of children with certain health conditions.

  1. Those with a history of severe allergies after receiving vaccines, or to other medications or unknown substances.
  2. Those who are immunocompromised because of disease or treatment received.
  3. Those who are being treated with anti-coagulants, or have health conditions that increase their bleeding tendency.

The assessment will be based on the current health status, medical history, allergy history and any medication or treatment the child may be taking, to determine :

  • whether the child should receive the COVID-19 vaccine
  • what type of COVID-19 vaccine may be suitable for the child
  • whether a different time may be better for the child’s vaccination
  • which is a more appropriate place for the vaccination – in a hospital or community PPV, for example.

Higher Risk Vaccinations

Children who are deemed to be at higher risk must receive their vaccinations at hospitals or medical facilities, to ensure that they have ready access to emergency treatment should the need arise.

  • children who underwent three pre-vaccination assessment, and were determined to be at higher risk,
  • patients receiving long-term treatment at those hospitals / medical facilities.
  • patients whose doctors believe are at higher risk
