COVID-19 : Agilent Penang Shuts Down As Well!

The rumours are true – Agilent Penang has shut down, together with Keysight Technologies, for sanitisation and deep cleaning.

However, it is not because there was a confirmed case of COVID-19 at Agilent or Keysight. Here are the details…

It All Started With Keysight Penang

Keysight Technologies in Penang were notified that one of their employees could have been exposed to COVID-19.

The employee was probably identified as a close contact, but has not shown any flu-like symptoms.

As a precaution, Keysight Penang is closing their site for four days to perform sanitisation and deep cleaning, as a precautionary measure.

They also directed all of their employees and non-Keysight workers to work from home until further notice.

From what we understand, Agilent and Keysight are not only located side-by-side, they actually share a common in-house F&B facility.

So, Agilent decided to take the same precautionary measures as Keysight, and close their Penang site for sanitisation and deep cleaning until Sunday, 15 March 2020.

All Agilent Penang employees were directed to work from home. Those who are unable to work from home (e.g. manufacturing operators) would be placed on paid leave.

It has come to Agilent’s attention that an employee from Keysight Technologies could possibly have been exposed to COVID-19.

While the site is not under serious threat, Agilent together with Keysight have taken the following proactive actions to support the health of our employees :

Keysight and Agilent Penang campus will be closed temporarily from Thursday 12 March until Sunday 15 March, 2020 to perform sanitization and deep cleaning of the site.
All Agilent Penang employees will Work From Home during this period. If you are unable to work from home (e.g. manufacturing operators), you will be placed on paid leave.
All Agilent Sales employees in KL, Johor, Kuantan, Sabah and Sarawak will be working per normal.

Agilent Penang Email On Temporary Closure

Here is a copy of the email that was issued to all Agilent employees at their Penang campus.

It is important to note that the Keysight Penang employee has NOT been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive.

Although this remains a possibility – the Motorola Solutions engineer did end up being diagnosed as COVID-19 positive – that is not yet the case.

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
Thoroughly cook your food, and boil water before drinking
