Samsung shared some tips on how we can SAFELY clean our phone and watch against COVID-19, without damaging them!

You can use the same cleaning advice on smartphones and smartwatches from other brands, of course!

 

How To SAFELY Clean Our Phone + Watch Against COVID-19

We are now all pretty clear on how to properly wash our hands or wear face masks the right way. But many of us still forget to keep our smart devices clean!

The COVID-19 coronavirus – SARS-CoV-2 – can survive on plastic and metal surfaces for 2-3 days, and we use our smart devices very often, making them potential sources of infection.

Even those who assiduously keep their smartphones and smartwatches clean, may not do it right and end up damaging them in the process!

Cleaning them the wrong way can also VOID your warranty, by triggering liquid contact indicators inside your smart devices.

So there are Samsung’s recommended methods on cleaning your phone and watch against COVID-19, without damaging them!

 

What Should You Use To SAFELY Clean Our Phone + Watch Against COVID-19?

While soap works best for keeping your hands clean of COVID-19, it’s not ideal for cleaning your smartphone and smartwatch.

Not all disinfectants can be used either, because they can strip away the oleophobic coating on your smartphone and smartwatch displays.

Samsung recommends using either these disinfectants to clear your phone or watch against COVID-19 :

But please note that such disinfectants should only be used on glass, ceramic and metal surfaces.

You must NOT use them on leather or rubber surfaces.

 

How To SAFELY Clean Your Phone Against COVID-19

Here is Samsung’s recommended way to clean your smartphone :

  1. Power off your smartphone
  2. Remove its case, cable and any attached accessories
  3. Use a lint-free microfibre cloth to wipe down the exterior of the smartphone
  4. Apply the disinfectant to the microfibre cloth, NOT directly on your smartphone.
    Avoid getting any liquid into any openings, or you can trigger the liquid contact indicators inside.
  5. Gently wipe the front and back of your smartphone with the damp cloth to sanitise it.

 

How To SAFELY Clean Your Watch Against COVID-19

  1. Power off your smartwatch
  2. Remove its straps
  3. Use a lint-free microfibre cloth to wipe down the exterior of the smartwatch
  4. Apply the disinfectant to the microfibre cloth, NOT directly on your smartwatch.
    Avoid getting any liquid into any openings, or you can trigger the liquid contact indicators inside.
  5. Gently wipe the glass and metal surfaces of your smartwatch with the damp cloth to sanitise it.
