New COVID-19 Clusters Show The Danger Of Social Contact!

Even though Malaysia seems to be keeping control of COVID-19 through MCO and Enhanced MCO measures, THREE new clusters and a new sub-cluster are revealing the danger of social contact!

New COVID-19 Clusters Show The Danger Of Social Contact!

The Malaysia Director General of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah shared details about THREE new clusters, and a new sub-cluster, to highlight the danger of social contact during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These clusters show how a single person can cause dozens of people to be infected, just by attending a single public event.

That is why it is CRITICAL that everyone obey the Movement Control Order, and stay at home! If people continue to maintain social contact, they may create new COVID-19 clusters.

This will force the government to further extend the MCO, or worse, institute the much harsher Enhanced Movement Control Order.

Details Of The New COVID-19 Clusters

New COVID-19 Sub-Cluster In Rembau

The Malaysia Ministry of Health found a COVID-19 sub-cluster in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, that was determined to be related to the Seri Petaling Tabligh congregation.

This cluster consists of staff from a school, that subsequently spread to several localities in Rembau District (Pedas, Pilin, Kundur and Batu Hampar).

This cluster was first detected when several teachers in a school were found positive for COVID-19. The infection transmission is believed to have taken place during a school meeting that was also attended by Case 448 (index case), who participated in the Seri Petaling gathering.

The infection then spread from the affected teachers and other school staff to their family members and the local community, resulting in three generations of infection. Investigations also found that individuals were still visiting relatives who were unwell in their respective houses despite the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

As of 8 April 2020 at 12 pm, 27 individuals have been diagnosed with COVID-19, including two (2) cases receiving treatment in the ICU.

The Seri Petaling Tabligh congregation cluster is the largest by far, accounting for 1682 cases, representing 40.8% of all COVID-19 positive cases in Malaysia.

The Malaysia Ministry of Health also identified a new COVID-19 cluster in Kuching, Sarawak.

This cluster originated from a church conference in Kuching, which the index case attended. Together with 24 new cases detected on 8 April 2020, the cluster now has 112 cases after 5 generations.
