COVID-19 In Malaysia : 18 New Cases, No Sporadic Spread!

Malaysia just announced that eighteen (18) COVID-19 cases were reported today, bringing the total number of cases to 117!

Here are the latest updates of the COVID-19 situation in Malaysia on 9 March 2020…

 

COVID-19 In Malaysia : Eighteen (18) New Cases!

As of 12 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that they identified eighteen (18) new COVID-19 cases – Cases 100 to 116.

They have been isolated for further management, and the Ministry is investigating and identifying their close contacts for tests.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 117 Cases + Uberisation Of Samples!

The Malaysia Ministry of Health confirmed that the two (2) cases that were reported yesterday to be in the ICU (Intensive Case Unit) are still in the ICU requiring ventilation support.

 

COVID-19 In Malaysia : Patient 101

The Malaysia Ministry of Health also shared about Case 101. He was detected as a Patient Under Investigation (PUI), and had history of travel to Iran with a business colleague from 20 to 27 February 2020.

He developed symptoms on 5 March 2020, and was tested positive for COVID-19 on 8 March 2020. He was admitted to the isolation ward at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Negeri Sembilan for further management.

The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced the Uberisation of sample collection, basically allowing for private COVID-19 testing in Malaysia from 11 companies in the beginning!

COVID-19 In Malaysia : No Sporadic Spread So Far

The Malaysia Ministry of Health continues to conduct COVID-19 surveillance to detect sporadic spread and local infections of COVID-19.

This surveillance program involves testing patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) with no history of travel to affected countries, or COVID-19 positive cases.

As of 9 March 2020, they tested 574 samples and all came back negative for COVID-19. Based on current surveillance results, there has been NO sporadic spread of COVID-19.

 

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Thoroughly cook your food, and boil water before drinking
