COVID-19 In Malaysia : Another Recovery, 20 New Cases!

Malaysia just announced that another COVID-19 patient has fully recovered, and been discharged. However, they also identified TWENTY (20) new COVID-19 cases.

Here are the latest updates of the COVID-19 situation in Malaysia on 11 March 2020…

COVID-19 In Malaysia : Case 78 Recovers!

Today, the Director General of the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that Case 78 has fully recovered, and was discharged today.

That means a total of 26 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered, and been discharged, in Malaysia. Malaysia Boleh!

COVID-19 In Malaysia : TWENTY (20) New Cases Today!

As of 12 PM today, they identified twenty (20) new COVID-19 casesCases 130 to 149.

Here’s their breakdown of the 149 cases so far :

  • 22 cases were detected amongst Patients Under Investigation (PUI)
  • 124 cases were close contacts
  • one case was detected through COVID-19 surveillance of patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).
  • two cases were from the Humanitarian Assistance Mission.

They also announced more details about the two cases that are currently being treated in the ICU, requiring ventilation :

  • They are both in stable condition
  • One patient is being treated in the Sungai Buloh Hospital
  • The second patient is being treated in the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru

Finally, they announced that all 66 Malaysian citizens and their family members who were evacuated from Wuhan, China through the Humanitarian Assistance Mission on 26 February 2020, have been allowed to return home after completing their quarantine.

They were all asymptomatic, and repeated tests confirmed that they were COVID-19 negative.

 

COVID-19 In Malaysia : One Sporadic Infection

The Malaysia Ministry of Health has been conducting COVID-19 surveillance to detect sporadic spread and local infections.

This surveillance program involves testing patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) with no history of travel to affected countries, or COVID-19 positive cases.

As of 11 March 2020, they tested 600 samples (138 SARI and 462 ILI) and one (1) sample came back positive. They are now investigating the source of this one case of sporadic infection.

 

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Thoroughly cook your food, and boil water before drinking
