COVID-19 In Malaysia : 120 NEW, 7 Recoveries + 2 Deaths…

This is a very sad day for Malaysia – not only are there 120 new COVID-19 cases today, two (2) patients succumbed, despite the heroic efforts of our great healthcare team…

On the upside, another seven (7) COVID-19 patients have fully recovered, and been discharged!

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 7 More Patients Recovered!

As of 5 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that seven (7) COVID-19 patients have fully recovered, and been discharged from hospital.

That means a total of 49 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia, so far.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 120 New Cases!

They also identified 120 new COVID-19 cases – Cases 554 to 673, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 673.

Here is the breakdown of all 673 COVID-19 cases in Malaysia, according to state :

Based on their preliminary investigations, the majority of these new cases – 95 to be exact – are related to the Tabligh gathering held at the Seri Petaling mosque.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : First Two Deaths

Unfortunately, they also reported that two (2) patients succumbed, the first reported COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia.

The first was Case 178, a 34-year old Malaysian male who attended the Tabligh gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque.

He started having symptoms on 5 March 2020 and was treated at Permai Hospital on 12 March 2020 after being diagnosed with COVID-19. His condition deteriorated and he was admitted to the ICU, but passed away today.

The second was Case 358, a 60-year old Malaysian male with a history of chronic illness. He started having symptoms on 7 March and was treated at the Sarawak General Hospital on 14 March 2020 after a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. He passed away today.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : Late Containment Phase

Based on the current situation, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that Malaysia is currently in the late containment phase (Phase 3) of the outbreak.

In this phase, their main goal will be to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Malaysia from becoming more serious.

Concurrently, the Malaysia Ministry of Health is also preparing to enter the mitigation phase (Phase 4). Some of the measures they have undertaken include :

Designating the Sungai Buloh Hospital as the dedicated admitting hospital for confirmed COVID-19 cases;
Strengthening the capacity and capabilities of laboratories for COVID-19 testing;
Identifying quarantine centres throughout the country; and
Collaborating with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and private healthcare facilities in managing COVID-19 cases.

Malaysia COVID-19 Lockdown Kicks Off Tomorrow!

The nationwide lockdown on travel, work and business in Malaysia will kick off tomorrow, and last from 18 March until 31 March, 2020.

During this time, all government and private offices and businesses will be closed, except those providing essential services.

Although there are no restrictions on travel within Malaysia during this lockdown, you will have nowhere to go, as all shops will be closed, except supermarkets, grocery shops and convenience stores selling essential items.

Schools, colleges, universities, cinemas, and so on, will also be closed. Cafes and restaurants will be closed for dine-in patrons, but you will be able to take-away food, or have them delivered to you.

We highly recommend that everyone just stay in your homes, and ride out the COVID-19 pandemic. Think of it as a 2-week government-mandated holiday! 😀

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
Avoid public events and crowds
Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
Thoroughly cook your food, and boil water before drinking
