790 COVID-19 Cases In Malaysia : 117 New, 11 Recoveries!

Malaysia soldiers on after losing two patients yesterday – detecting another 117 new COVID-19 cases, but also discharging 11 patients who have fully recovered!

Here are the updates on COVID-19 in Malaysia on 18 March 2020…

 

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 11 More Patients Recovered!

As of 5 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that eleven (11) patients have fully recovered, and been discharged from hospital.

That means a total of 60 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia, so far!

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 117 New Cases!

They identified 117 new COVID-19 cases today – bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 790. Of the 117 new cases, 80 (68.4%) were related to the Tabligh gathering.

They also shared that fifteen (15) of those cases are now in the ICU, requiring respiratory support.

Here is the breakdown of those 790 cases so far :

  • Patients Under Investigation (PUI) : 123 cases (15.6%)
  • Close Contacts : 135 cases (17.0%)
  • Tabligh Gathering : 513 cases (64.9%)
  • COVID-19 Surveillance : 17 cases (2.2%)
  • Humanitarian Mission : 2 cases (0.3%)

The vast majority of cases are related to the Tabligh gathering held at the Seri Petaling mosque.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : First Two Deaths

The Malaysia Ministry of Health also announced that as of 17 March 2020, they tested almost 10,000 suspected cases, and 673 cases were confirmed positive – 7% of the total tested.

In this table, we can see that two groups had the highest risk of getting infected – Close Contacts (9.45%) and participants in the Tabligh gathering (10.59%).

 

Malaysia COVID-19 Lockdown Has Started!

The nationwide lockdown on travel, work and business in Malaysia kicked off today, and last from 18 March until 31 March, 2020.

During this time, all government and private offices and businesses will be closed, except those providing essential services.

Although there are no restrictions on travel within Malaysia during this lockdown, you will have nowhere to go, as all shops will be closed, except supermarkets, grocery shops and convenience stores selling essential items.

Schools, colleges, universities, cinemas, and so on, will also be closed. Cafes and restaurants will be closed for dine-in patrons, but you will be able to take-away food, or have them delivered to you.

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Thoroughly cook your food, and boil water before drinking
