COVID-19 in Malaysia : 2908 Cases, 142 New, 2 More Dead

Malaysia today recorded 142 new COVID-19 cases and TWO deaths, but also discharged 108 patients who have fully recovered!

Here are the updates on COVID-19 in Malaysia on 1 April 2020…

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 108 More Patients Recovered!

As of 12 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that another 108 patients have fully recovered, and been discharged from hospital – the most in a single day!

That means a total of 645 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia so far!

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 142 New Cases!

They identified 142 new COVID-19 cases today – bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 2908.

They also shared that the number of COVID-19 cases in the ICU increased to 102, with six more patients requiring respiratory support – 66 at the current count.

Here is the breakdown of cases, according to states. Selangor maintains the highest total at 726 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 455 cases, and Johor with 368 cases.

The chart shows that the Movement Control Order is helping to flatten the curve! We are still registering over 100 cases per day, but the increases are linear and not exponential.

Here is the breakdown of cases (as of yesterday) according to positive diagnoses (blue), full recoveries (green) and death (red).

It shows that despite the number of detected cases exceed 100 every day, it has sort of plateaued.

And here is the breakdown of cases according to their age groups. The vast majority of cases are between 26 and 65 years of age.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : TWO Deaths Today

The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced TWO deaths today, which means a total of 45 people have died from COVID-19 in Malaysia – a mortality rate of 1.55%.

44th Death : Case 193 was an 80 year-old Malaysian female, with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. She was a close contact of Case 115, and was treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on 13 March 2020 but passed away on 31 March 2020 at 4:30 AM.

45th Death : Case 1053 was a 62 year-old Malaysian male, with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. He was a close contact of Case 486. He was treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on 17 March 2020, but passed away at 10:46 PM on 31 March 2020.

Malaysian Volunteer Scheme Status

The Malaysia Ministry of Health also reported on the status of the volunteer scheme. A total of 2,359 volunteers have offered to serve in the public hospitals, quarantine centres and low-risk COVID-19 treatment centres (like the newly-built MAEPS hospital).

Day 15 Of Movement Control Order In Malaysia

Today marks the 15th day of the nationwide lockdown on travel, work and business in Malaysia, which has been extended until 14 April, 2020.

The Malaysian government has so far announced three Enhanced MCOs :

Menara City One : 31 March until 13 April 2020
Hulu Langat : 30 March until 13 April 2020
Two areas in Simpang Renggam : 27 March until 9 April 2020.

During this time, all government and private offices and businesses will be closed, except those providing essential services.

Although there are no restrictions on travel within Malaysia during this lockdown, you will have nowhere to go, as all shops will be closed, except supermarkets, grocery shops and convenience stores selling essential items.

Schools, colleges, universities, cinemas, and so on, will also be closed. Cafes and restaurants will be closed for dine-in patrons, but you will be able to take-away food, or have them delivered to you.

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
Avoid public events and crowds
Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation
