Malaysia today reported a spike of 95 new COVID-19 cases, ONE death, and discharged 14 patients who fully recovered!

Here are the COVID-19 updates for Malaysia on 18 September 2020…

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 14 More Patients Recovered!

At 5 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that another 14 patients fully recovered, and were discharged today!

That means a total of 9,264 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia so far! That’s a recovery rate of 91.3%.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 95 New Cases!

They identified a spike of 95 new COVID-19 cases today :

  • 4 cases imported from overseas
    – 3 cases in Selangor : PATI (illegal immigrants) from Indonesia
    – 1 case in Sabah : foreign ship crew member from China
  • 68 local cases involving Malaysian citizens
    – 67 cases in Sabah : 56 from LD Benteng Cluster, 3 from Pulau Cluster, 3 from Selamat Cluster, 2 from SARI screening at Lahad Datu Hospital, 2 screening of symptomatic cases (now at Tawau Hospital), 1 screening of close contact to Case 10,145 (now at Tawau Hospital)
    – 1 case in Negeri Sembilan : from screening of Bunga Cluster
  • 23 local cases involving foreigners
    – all in Sabah : 20 from LD Benteng Cluster, 1 from Pulau Cluster, 1 from SARI screening at Lahad Datu Hospital, 1 screening of death at Semporna Hospital

This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 10,147, with 754 active cases – an increase of 80 cases, and the 1st day Malaysia went above 750 active cases for the 1st time during the RMCO period.

They also shared that there are two fewer patients in the ICU – 11 cases right now, and no change in patients requiring respiratory support – 2 cases right now.

Here is the breakdown of cases, according to states. Kuala Lumpur is at the top with 2,625 cases, followed by Selangor with 2,205 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 1,044 cases, and Sabah with 1,036 cases.

 

LD Benteng Cluster Update

The LD Benteng Cluster continues to generate new cases. As of 12 PM on 18 September 2020, 76 new cases were detected out of 7,814 screenings :

Lahad Datu

  • 9 new cases, 151 cases total
  • 1,306 negative cases
  • 552 individuals waiting for their results

Tawau

  • 66 new case, 398 cases total
  • 4,120 negative cases
  • 1,286 individuals waiting for their results

Sandakan

  • 1 new case

Out of all 7,814 screenings carried out :

  • 1,388 prisoners : 457 positive
  • 1,158 prison + IPD staff : 20 positive
  • 1,391 close contacts of staff family and prisoners : 23 positive
  • 1,036 government officers (others) : 1 positive
  • 2,841 social contacts : 49 positive

Of the 550 positive cases :

  • 271 are Malaysian citizens
  • 185 are citizens of the Philippines
  • 94 are Indonesian citizens

 

COVID-19 In Malaysia : ONE Death Today

The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced ONE death today, which means a total of 129 people have died from COVID-19 in Malaysia – a mortality rate of 1.27%.

Death #129 : Case 10,145 was a 50 year-old Filipino female who experienced cough and breathing difficulties on 14 September 2020. She sought treatment at a medical center and was referred to the Semporna Hospital.

However, she did not go to the Semporna Hospital, and was found unconscious. She was taken to the Semporna Hospital where she was pronounced dead on 14 September. A screening test showed that she was positive for COVID-19.

Day 99 Of Recovery Movement Control Order In Malaysia

Today marks the 99th day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which will last until 31 December, 2020.

Under RMCO, most businesses are allowed to reopen, with a new normal of restrictions on social distancing and other measures.

Malaysia RMCO Liberalisation : What Is Allowed / Not Allowed?

Interstate travel is now allowed (except to Enhanced MCO / administrative restricted areas), as well as many sports facilities.

The Malaysian government has so far announced several Enhanced MCOs :

They also announced Administrative Enhanced MCO for two areas in Banting, a section of Chow Kit, some residential areas in Selayang and Pudu.

 

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation
