Malaysia today reported 20 new COVID-19 cases, ONE death, but discharged 51 patients who fully recovered!
Here are the COVID-19 updates for Malaysia on 19 September 2020…
COVID-19 In Malaysia : 51 More Patients Recovered!
At 5 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that another 51 patients fully recovered, and were discharged today!
That means a total of 9,315 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia so far! That’s a recovery rate of 91.6%.
COVID-19 In Malaysia : 20 New Cases!
They identified 20 new COVID-19 cases today :
- 3 cases imported from overseas
– 2 cases in KL : Malaysian citizen from Qatar, and foreigner from India
– 1 case in Selangor : Malaysian citizen from New Zealand - 14 local cases involving Malaysian citizens
– 9 cases in Kedah : 8 cases from Sungai Cluster, 1 from SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Illness) screening at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital
– 5 cases in Sabah : 1 screening of referral from the Semporna Hospital to the Tawau Hospital, 1 from SARI screening at the Tawau Hospital, 1 pre-surgical screening at the Keningau Hospital, 1 from community screening in Tawau, and 1 from LD Benteng Cluster - 3 local cases involving foreigners
– all in Sabah : 2 from screening of referrals from the Semporna Hospital to the Tawau Hospital, 1 from new Bakau Cluster
This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 10,167, with 722 active cases – a drop of 32 cases, and the 2nd day Malaysia has above 750 active cases for the 1st time during the RMCO period.
They also shared that there are one additional patient in the ICU – 12 cases right now, and no change in patients requiring respiratory support – 2 cases right now.
Here is the breakdown of cases, according to states. Kuala Lumpur is at the top with 2,627 cases, followed by Selangor with 2,206 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 1,044 cases, and Sabah with 1,044 cases.
New Bakau Cluster
The Bakau (Mangrove) Cluster is a new COVID-19 cluster identified today in Semporna, Sabah.
The index case is a 50 year-old Filipino female (Case 10145) who was also Death #129, as reported yesterday.
She was found to be COVID-19 positive on 16 September. Close contact screening found two more COVID-19 positive cases involving a Malaysian citizen and a foreigner.
They have both been admitted to the Tawau Hospital for treatment. As of 12 PM, 19 September 2020, 109 people in this cluster have undergone screening :
- 3 positive cases
- 106 individuals awaiting results
Sungai Cluster Update
The Sungai Cluster continues to generate new cases. As of 12 PM on 19 September 2020, 8 new cases were reported out of 29,935 screenings :
Kedah
- 8 new positive cases, 72 cases total
- 22,944 negative individuals
- 732 individuals awaiting results
Penang
- 141 negative individuals
- 1 individual awaiting results
Perlis
- 1 case total
- 28 negative individuals
- 16 individuals awaiting results
LD Benteng Cluster Update
The LD Benteng Cluster continues to generate new cases. As of 12 PM on 19 September 2020, 1 new case was detected out of 7,985 screenings :
Lahad Datu
- 151 cases total
- 1,306 negative individuals
- 552 individuals waiting for their results
Tawau
- 1 new case, 399 cases total
- 4,120 negative individuals
- 1,456 individuals waiting for their results
Sandakan
- 1 new case
Out of all 7,985 screenings carried out :
- 1,520 prisoners : 458 positive
- 1,158 prison + IPD staff : 20 positive
- 1,391 close contacts of staff family and prisoners : 23 positive
- 1,036 government officers (others) : 1 positive
- 2,880 social contacts : 49 positive

COVID-19 In Malaysia : ONE Death Today
The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced ONE death today, which means a total of 130 people have died from COVID-19 in Malaysia – a mortality rate of 1.28%.
Death #130 : Case 9578 was a 82 year-old Malaysian male with a history of stroke and immobility from a broken leg since March 2020.
He who experienced a fever on 4 September 2020, but did not seek treatment. On 7 September 2020, he was traced as a close contact to a child and a grandchild who were positive cases from the Sungai Cluster (Case 9458 and Case 9547).
He was admitted to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah, and confirmed positive on 9 September 2020. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the ICU. However, he passed away at 5:45 PM on 18 September 2020.

Day 100 Of COVID-19 RMCO In Malaysia
Today marks the 100th day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which will last until 31 December, 2020.
Under RMCO, most businesses are allowed to reopen, with a new normal of restrictions on social distancing and other measures.

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!
Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :
- Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
- Avoid public events and crowds
- Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
- Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
- If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
- Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation
