COVID-19 Malaysia : 10,219 Cases, 9355 Healed, 130 Dead

Malaysia today reported 52 new COVID-19 cases, but NO death, and discharged 40 patients who fully recovered!

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 40 More Patients Recovered!

At 5 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that another 40 patients fully recovered, and were discharged today!

That means a total of 9,355 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia so far! That’s a recovery rate of 91.6%.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 52 New Cases!

They identified 52 new COVID-19 cases today :

  • 12 cases imported from overseas
    – 6 cases in KL : 1 Malaysian citizen + 2 foreigners from India, 1 foreigner each from Bangladesh, Yemen, and Russia.
    – 4 cases in Selangor : 2 Malaysian citizens + 1 foreigner from Indian, 1 foreigner from Indonesia.
    – 2 cases in Labuan : 2 foreigners from India
  • 26 local cases involving Malaysian citizens
    – 22 cases in Sabah : 15 from LD Benteng Cluster, 2 from Selamat Cluster, 1 from Pulau Cluster, 1 from Bakau Cluster, 2 from screening of healthcare workers, 1 f rom community screening
    – 3 cases in Kedah : all from screening of EMCO area.
    – 1 case in Penang : from new Ara Cluster
  • 14 local cases involving foreigners
    – all in Sabah : 12 from LD Benteng Cluster, 1 from pre-surgical screening, 1 from workplace screening

This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 10,219, with 734 active cases – an increase of 12 cases, and the 10th day Malaysia has above 500 active cases for the 1st time during the RMCO period.

They also shared that there are two fewer patients in the ICU – 10 cases right now, and no change in patients requiring respiratory support – 2 cases right now.

Here is the breakdown of cases, according to states. Kuala Lumpur is at the top with 2,633 cases, followed by Selangor with 2,210 cases, Sabah with 1080 cases, and Negeri Sembilan with 1,044 cases.

 

New Ara Cluster

The Ara  Cluster is a new COVID-19 cluster identified today in Penang.

The index case is a 44 year-old Malaysian male (Case 10024) who was detected as COVID-19 positive at the Sandakan International Gateway on 15 September 2020 on his arrival from Peninsular Malaysia.

Screening of his close contacts were carried out and a positive case was identified (Case 10217) – his niece/nephew, who has been admitted to the Penang Hospital for treatment.

Ara Cluster 20 September 2020

As of 12 PM, 20 September 2020, a total of 16 individuals were screened with these results :

  • 2 positive cases
  • 14 individuals who tested negative

 

Selamat Cluster Update

The Selamat Cluster continues to generate new cases in Sabah. As of 12 PM on 20 September 2020, 2 new cases were reported out of 213 screenings :

  • 2 new positive cases, 7 cases total
  • 206 individuals awaiting results

 

LD Benteng Cluster Update

The LD Benteng Cluster continues to generate new cases. As of 12 PM on 20 September 2020, 27 new cases were detected out of 8,627 screenings :

Tawau

  • 27 new cases, 426 cases total
  • 4,120 negative individuals
  • 1,799 individuals waiting for their results

Lahad Datu

  • 151 cases total
  • 1,306 negative individuals
  • 824 individuals waiting for their results

Sandakan

  • 1 case in total

Out of all 8,627 screenings carried out :

  • 1,520 prisoners : 475 positive
  • 1,158 prison + IPD staff : 24 positive
  • 1,394 close contacts of staff family and prisoners : 26 positive
  • 1,241 government officers (others) : 0 positive
  • 3,314 social contacts : 53 positive

Of the 578 positive cases :

  • 287 are Malaysian citizens
  • 191 are citizens of the Philippines
  • 100 are Indonesian citizens

 

COVID-19 In Malaysia : NO Death Today

The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced NO death today, which means a total of 130 people have died from COVID-19 in Malaysia – a mortality rate of 1.28%.

Day 101 Of COVID-19 RMCO In Malaysia

Today marks the 101st day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which will last until 31 December, 2020.

Under RMCO, most businesses are allowed to reopen, with a new normal of restrictions on social distancing and other measures.

Interstate travel is now allowed (except to Enhanced MCO / administrative restricted areas), as well as many sports facilities.

The Malaysian government has so far announced several Enhanced MCOs :

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation
