Malaysia today reported 147 new COVID-19 cases and 3 deaths, and discharged 39 patients who fully recovered!

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 39 More Patients Recovered!

At 5 PM today, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that another 39 patients fully recovered, and were discharged today!

That means a total of 9,563 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia so far! That’s a recovery rate of 91.4%.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 147 New Cases!

They identified 147 new COVID-19 cases today :

  • 4 cases imported from overseas
    – all cases in KL : 3 Malaysian citizens from India, and 1 foreigner from Indonesia
  • 119 local cases involving Malaysian citizens
    – 106 cases in Sabah : 90 from LD Benteng Cluster, 6 from Bangau-Bangau Cluster, 2 from Pulau Cluster, 4 from SARI screening, 3 from healthcare worker screening (Semporna Hospital), 1 from screening of IPD Semporna detainee
    – 5 cases in Kedah : 4 from Sungai Cluster, 1 from community screening
    – 2 cases in Selangor : 1 from close contact screening of Case 10286 with history of travel from Semporna, 1 from workplace screening with history of travel from Semporna
    – 1 case in KL : screening of returnee from high-risk area (Sabah)
    – 1 case in Kelantan : screening at International Port of Entry of returnee from Sabah
  • 28 local cases involving foreigners
    – all cases in Sabah : 15 from LD Benteng Cluster, 8 from Laut Cluster, 2 from Bangau-Bangau Cluster, 2 from new Udin Cluster, 1 from SARI screening

This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 10,505, with 770 active cases – an increase of 105 cases, and the 13th day Malaysia has above 500 active cases for the 1st time during the RMCO period.

They also shared that there is one fewer patient in the ICU – 8 cases right now, and no change in patients requiring respiratory support – 2 cases right now.

Here is the breakdown of cases, according to states. Kuala Lumpur is at the top with 2,650 cases, followed by Selangor with 2,217 cases, Sabah with 1,323 cases, and Negeri Sembilan with 1,044 cases.

 

New Udin COVID-19 Cluster In Malaysia

The Udin Cluster is a new COVID-19 cluster identified today in Tawau, Sabah.

The index case (Case 9894) is a 72 year-old Malaysian female, who was identified from a screening of senior citizens at the Merotai Health Clinic in Tawau on 12 September 2020.

Close contact screening detected two more COVID-19 cases – both Filipino citizens. They are asymptomatic, and have been admitted to the Tawau Hospital for treatment.

As of 12 PM, 23 September 2020, a total of 128 individuals were screened with these results :

  • 3 positive cases
  • 71 negative individuals
  • 54 individuals still waiting for results

LD Benteng Cluster Update

The LD Benteng Cluster continues to generate new cases. As of 12 PM on 23 September 2020, 105 new cases were detected out of 10,389 screenings :

Tawau

  • 104 new cases, 570 cases total
  • 5,109 negative individuals
  • 2,147 individuals waiting for their results

Lahad Datu

  • 1 new case, 158 cases total
  • 1,490 negative individuals
  • 914 individuals waiting for their results

Sandakan

  • 1 case in total

Out of all 10,389 screenings carried out :

  • 1,736 prisoners : 617 positive
  • 1,159 prison + IPD staff : 24 positive
  • 1,394 close contacts of staff family and prisoners : 27 positive
  • 1,518 government officers (others) : 0 positive
  • 4,582 social contacts : 59 positive

Of the 729 positive cases :

  • 315 are Malaysian citizens
  • 202 are citizens of the Philippines
  • 113 are Indonesian citizens

 

COVID-19 In Malaysia : THREE Deaths Today

The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced THREE deaths today, which means a total of 133 people have died from COVID-19 in Malaysia – a mortality rate of 1.27%.

Death #131 : Case 10495 was a 48 year-old Indonesian female with a history of diabetes and hypertension. She started experiencing weakness, vomiting, cough and fever on 14 September 2020. She was brought to the Tawau Hospital Emergency Department on 18 September half-conscious, and was transferred to the ICU on 19 September. But she passed away on the same day at 10:20 PM. A COVID-19 screening test came back positive on 22 September 2020.

Death #132 : Case 10493 was a 54 year-old Malaysian male who sought treatment at the Semporna Hospital Emergency Department on 18 September 2020 for fever, cough and breathing difficulties. A COVID-19 screening was administered and he was referred to the Tawau Hospital on 20 September 2020, and placed into the ICU. He passed away on 22 September 2020 at 6:55 PM. On the same day, his COVID-19 test came back positive.

Death #133 : Case 9224 was a 72 year-old Malaysian male with a history of stroke. He was detected as a close contact of Case 9124 (Death #127) from the Tawar Cluster. He was asymptomatic but tested positive for COVID-19 on 19 August and admitted to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the ICU. He passed away on 23 September 2020 at 3:40 AM.

Day 104 Of COVID-19 RMCO In Malaysia

Today marks the 104th day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which will last until 31 December, 2020.

Under RMCO, most businesses are allowed to reopen, with a new normal of restrictions on social distancing and other measures.

Malaysia RMCO Liberalisation : What Is Allowed / Not Allowed?

Interstate travel is now allowed (except to Enhanced MCO / administrative restricted areas), as well as many sports facilities.

The Malaysian government has so far announced several Enhanced MCOs :

They also announced Administrative Enhanced MCO for two areas in Banting, a section of Chow Kit, some residential areas in Selayang and Pudu.

 

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation
