Malaysia reported a record 4029 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths, but discharged 2148 patients who fully recovered!

Here are the COVID-19 updates for Malaysia on 16 January 2021…

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 2148 Patients Discharged!

At 6:45 PM on 16 January 2021, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that another 2148 patients fully recovered from COVID-19, and were discharged today!

That means a total of 117,375 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia so far! That’s a recovery rate of 75.7%.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 4029 New Cases!

The third wave continues with a record 4029 new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia!

8 cases imported from overseas
– 7 in KL, 1 in Sarawak
4021 local cases
– 1466 cases in Selangor : 486 from existing clusters, 675 from close contact screening, 305 from assorted screening
– 719 cases in Johor : 348 from existing clusters, 163 from new Jalan Sembrong, Tembok Nanas and Senai Cyber clusters, 143 from close contact screening, 65 from assorted screening
– 449 cases in Sabah : 8 from existing clusters, 335 from close contact screening, 106 from assorted screening
– 340 cases in KL : 949 from existing clusters, 129 from close contact screening, 117 from assorted screening
– 214 cases in Negeri Sembilan : 41 from existing clusters, 50 from new Jalan Permata Cluster, 74 from close contact screening, 49 from assorted screening
– 195 cases in Kedah : 19 from existing clusters, 62 from close contact screening, 114 from assorted screening
– 141 cases in Kelantan : 45 from existing clusters, 63 from close contact screening, 33 from assorted screening
– 120 cases in Penang : 36 from existing clusters, 46 from close contact screening, 38 from assorted screening
– 80 cases in Terengganu : 35 from existing clusters, 22 from close contact screening, 23 from assorted screening
– 68 cases in Sarawak : 50 from existing clusters, 18 from assorted screening
– 65 cases in Pahang : 1 from existing cluster, 9 from new Kampung Lebu Cluster, 41 from close contact screening, 15 from assorted screening
– 54 cases in Perak : 10 from existing clusters, 1 from new Taman Juta Cluster, 30 from close contact screening, 13 from assorted screening
– 44 cases in Melaka : 4 from existing clusters, 36 from close contact screening, 4 from assorted screening
– 35 cases in Putrajaya : 3 from existing clusters, 19 from close contact screening, 13 from assorted screening
– 17 cases in Labuan : 12 from close contact screening, 5 from assorted screening
– 14 cases in Perlis : all from close contact screening

This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 155,095, with 37,126 active cases – a big increase of 1873 cases.

They also shared that there is 1 additional patient in the ICU – 205 cases right now, and 8 fewer patients requiring respiratory support – 79 cases right now.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : Cases Breakdown By State

Here is the breakdown of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia, according to states.

Selangor is at the top with 45,519 cases, followed by Sabah with 43,251 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 17,793 cases, and Johor with 13,010 cases.

COVID-19 In Malaysia : 8 Deaths Today

The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced 8 deaths today, which means a total of 594 people have died from COVID-19 in Malaysia – a mortality rate of 0.38%.

Death #587 : Case 104077 was a 70 year-old Malaysian male, with a history of diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. He passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah.

Death #588 : Case 126612 was a 59 year-old Malaysian male, with a history of diabetes. He passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

Death #589 : Case 141045 was a 78 year-old Malaysian male, with a history of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and hearing problems. He passed away at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Perak.

Death #590 : Case 142964 was a 72 year-old Malaysian male, with a history of COAD – chronic obstructive airway disease. He passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

Death #591 : Case 144035 was a 40 year-old Malaysian male, with a history of diabetes. He passed away at the Bentong Hospital in Pahang.

Death #592 : Case 145939 was a 62 year-old Malaysian male, whose body was brought to the Lahad Datu Hospital in Sabah.

Death #593 : Case 117659 was a 45 year-old foreign female, with a history of heart disease. She passed away at the Lahad Datu Hospital in Sabah.

Death #594 : Case 149197 was a 61 year-old foreign female, with a history of diabetes, and hypertension. She passed away at the Lahad Datu Hospital in Sabah.

Day 219 Of COVID-19 RMCO In Malaysia

Today marks the 219th day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which will last until 31 March, 2021.

Under RMCO, most businesses are allowed to reopen, with a new normal of restrictions on social distancing and other measures.
