Malaysia reported 2331 new COVID-19 cases and 5 deaths, but discharged 1832 patients who fully recovered!
Here are the COVID-19 updates for Malaysia on 17 April 2021…
COVID-19 In Malaysia : 1832 Patients Discharged!
On 17 April 2021, the Malaysia Ministry of Health announced that another 1832 patients fully recovered from COVID-19, and were discharged today!
That means a total of 352,395 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in Malaysia so far! That’s a recovery rate of 94.5%.
COVID-19 In Malaysia : 2551 New Cases!
The third wave continues with 2551 new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia!
- 12 cases imported from overseas
– 11 in KL, 1 in Selangor - 2319 local cases
– 750 cases in Selangor : 36 from existing clusters, 4 from new Jalan Maktab Cluster, 583 from close contact screening, 127 from assorted screening.
– 512 cases in Sarawak : 50 from existing clusters, 117 from new Jalan Disa, Jalan Ding Lim Kwong and Ulu Balingian clusters, 222 from close contact screening, 123 from assorted screening.
– 241 cases in KL : 5 from existing clusters, 149 from close contact screening, 87 from assorted screening.
– 225 cases in Kelantan : 65 from existing clusters, 128 from close contact screening, 32 from assorted screening.
– 163 cases in Sabah : 62 from existing clusters, 10 from new Bukit Quion and Jalan Damai Tawau clusters, 62 from close contact screening, 29 from assorted screening.
– 116 cases in Penang : 29 from existing clusters, 35 from close contact screening, 52 from assorted screening.
– 100 cases in Johor : 37 from existing clusters, 6 from new Jalan Wawasan Lima Cluster, 39 from close contact screening, 18 from assorted screening.
– 89 cases in Negeri Sembilan : 63 from existing clusters, 18 from close contact screening, 8 from assorted screening.
– 45 cases in Kedah : 15 from existing clusters, 18 from close contact screening, 12 from assorted screening.
– 42 cases in Perak : 28 from existing clusters, 5 from close contact screening, 9 from assorted screening.
– 20 cases in Pahang : 3 from existing clusters, 5 from new Seri Kuantan Cluster, 3 from close contact screening, 9 from assorted screening.
– 9 cases in Melaka : 2 from existing clusters, 2 from close contact screening, 5 from assorted screening.
– 4 cases in Putrajaya : 1 from existing cluster, 3 from close contact screening
– 2 cases in Labuan : 1 from existing cluster, 1 from assorted screening
– 1 case in Perlis : from close contact screening
This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia to 372,859, with 19,094 active cases – a big increase of 494 cases.
They also shared that there are 2 fewer patients in the ICU – 225 cases right now, and 1 additional patient requiring respiratory support – 92 cases right now.
COVID-19 In Malaysia : Cases Breakdown By State
Here is the breakdown of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia, according to states.
Selangor is at the top with 123,158 cases, followed by Sabah with 56,673 cases, Johor with 42,929 cases, and Kuala Lumpur with 39,916 cases.
COVID-19 In Malaysia : 5 Deaths Today
The Malaysia Ministry of Health announced 5 deaths today. That means a total of 1,370 people have died from COVID-19 in Malaysia – a mortality rate of 0.37%.
Death #1366 : 78 year-old Malaysian male, with history of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity. He passed away at the Ampang Hospital in Selangor.
Death #1367 : 76 year-old Malaysian female, with history of diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. She passed away at the Ampang Hospital in Selangor.
Death #1368 : 61 year-old Malaysian male, with history of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and chronic kidney disease. He passed away at the Tawau Hospital in Sabah.
Death #1369 : 86 year-old Malaysian female, with history of diabetes, hypertension and stroke. She passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah.
Death #1370 : 68 year-old Malaysian female, with history of heart disease. She passed away at the Miri Hospital in Sarawak.
Day 95 Of CMCO / RMCO 2.0 In Malaysia
Today marks the 95th day of the CMCO / RMCO 2.0 which will last until 28 April 2021.
Under CMCO / RMCO 2.0, inter-district travel is allowed, but not interstate travel. And businesses are allowed to operate, subject to SOP.

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :
- Avoid suspected cases or disease hotspots, like hospitals, if possible!
- Avoid public events and crowds
- Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
- If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
