The government just updated and synchronised dine-in privileges for fully-vaccinated people in Malaysia.

Here is what you need to know!

Dine-In For Fully-Vaccinated : What You Need To Know!

Starting from Friday, 20 August 2021 onwards, fully-vaccinated people in Phase 1 states are also allowed to dine-in, bringing them in line with the other states.

On 20 August 2021, MKN released updated SOP guidelines that synchronised the dine-in rules for fully-vaccinated people across Malaysia.

Who Qualifies To Dine-In?

Only those who are fully-vaccinated according to these requirements can dine-in :

  • More than 14 days after receiving both doses of the Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Sinovac vaccine.
  • More than 28 days after receiving a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson or Cansino vaccine.

Children are currently not being vaccinated. So parents who are fully-vaccinated are ALLOWED to bring their children who are 17 years or younger to dine-in.

Where Can You Dine-In?

From 20 August 2021 onwards, all eateries in Malaysia are ALLOWED to offer dine-in services, including :

  • Restaurant operators, including hotels, sports and recreational club houses, food shops, food stalls, food trucks, roadside hawkers, food courts, food carts, and food kiosks
  • Restaurant or cafe in sports / recreational club houses

However, restaurant / cafe services in pubs and nightclubs are still FORBIDDEN.

Dine-In Requirements

Eateries offering dine-in services are subject to these requirements :

  • only accept customers who are fully-vaccinated AND asymptomatic
  • premise owners must display a notice stating that only customers who are fully-vaccinated and asymptomatic are allowed in
  • workers who are fully-vaccinated and asymptomatic are allowed to work at these capacities :

    b) 60% : up to 80% worker capacity
    c) 80% : up to 100% worker capacity

Should You Dine-In If You’re Fully-Vaccinated?

The government may be allowing fully-vaccinated people to dine-in across Malaysia, but I would highly recommend that you DO NOT dine-in.

Community spread in Malaysia is rampant with over 20,000 new COVID-19 cases per day, and dining-in is a very risky activity because :

  • you have to remove your face mask for a prolonged period of time.
  • you are seated in (relative) close proximity with strangers.
  • when seated indoors, you will be breathing air that’s shared with other people in the same premise
  • even seated outdoors, you are exposed to people walking past, or the wait staff.

Even though you are fully-vaccinated, you are still at risk of being exposed to the coronavirus and developing a breakthrough infection.

If you really miss dining-in, try to mitigate the risk by opting to :

  • seat outdoors, where there is good ventilation.
  • keep your face mask on, until you need to eat or drink.
  • put on your face mask, whenever you need to speak with any stranger (like the wait staff)
