DNA In Cow’s Milk Makes Children Hot-Tempered Hoax!

DNA In Cow's Milk Creates Hot-Tempered Babies

Contents

A religious teacher claimed on national TV that DNA in cow’s milk makes children hot-tempered! Unbelievable!

We debunk this nonsensical claim, and share with you the facts on cow’s milk and DNA in general!

Updated @ 9/8/2015 : We have just identified the ustazah as Ustazah Fatimah Syarha. She is apparently a kind-hearted person, although she obviously has no idea what she’s talking about when she criticised cow’s milk. Again, that’s why religious teachers should just stick to their religion and not science.

DNA In Cow’s Milk Makes Children Hot-Tempered???

Everyone knows that breast milk is the best milk for your baby. But some, as we have pointed out before, take breastfeeding way too seriously.

During the TV3 Fiqr Wanita show on the 7th of August, 2015, Ustazah* Fatimah Syarha claimed that if a baby drinks cow’s milk, the baby will eventually become hot-tempered like a cow!

* Ustazah = a female religious teacher

This ustazah claims that babies will absorb bovine DNA from cow’s milk
And that the bovine DNA will change the baby’s character
Eventually, the baby will become hot-tempered because cows are hot-tempered

This most learned lady claimed that :

Kalau kita bagi susu lembu, maka DNA lembu akan masuk ke dalam badan bayi. Jadi ia akan mempengaruhi akhlak bayi. Mungkin bayi akan membesar menjadi orang yang pemarah sebab lembu ini cepat marah.

Here is the English translation :

If we give (the baby) cow’s milk, its body will absorb the bovine DNA. This will influence the baby’s character. The baby may grow up to be a hot-headed person because cows are hot-headed.

Am I really hot-headed???

Seriously, stop maligning the poor cows. They are not hot-headed animals.

This is yet another reason why we should not listen to religious teachers when they talk about science. They know NOTHING about science.

If you don’t listen to your plumber when you need advice on a heart bypass, you should not listen to religious teachers talk about anything else but their religion.

The Ustazah Gets Ridiculed

Needless to say, Ustazah Fatimah Syarha‘s comments immediately received widespread ridicule online. Even the TV3 Fiqh Wanita Facebook post on the topic received a lot of comments criticising her claim :

DNA in cow’s milk creates hot-tempered children? These people obviously don’t think so!

In this page, we will take a look at the scientific facts behind cow’s milk and DNA.

Cow’s Milk Has No DNA

Milk does not technically contain DNA. Like breast milk, cow’s milk is a mix of lipids (fats), protein and carbohydrates together with minerals and vitamins.

None of its constituents contain DNA. However, some cells from the cow will end up in the milk. These cells contain DNA.

DNA Is Denatured By Consumption

When you consume anything with DNA (meat, for example), it will get digested and reduced to its most basic constituents to be absorbed by the body.

See? Cows are not violent creatures… 😀

So DNA will be broken down to its constituents – monosaccharides, phosphate, nitrogen, etc, which are then absorbed by our intestines. DNA will never be absorbed in its entirety.

Bovine cells (and the DNA they contain) are also denatured by heating processes like pasteurisation. Approximately 50% of DNA is denatured at 90°C, so high-temperature pasteurisation processes like UHT (140°C for 4 seconds) will irreparably damage DNA.

DNA Of Different Species Are Incompatible

There are examples of bacterial and viral species exchanging or incorporating foreign DNA. But when it comes to mammals, we cannot simply absorb DNA and incorporate them into our own DNA.

Any foreign cells that enters our bloodstream are identified by our immune system as foreign and destroyed.

We Do Not Become What We Eat

It’s often said that we are what we eat, but we certainly do not become what we eat. If that’s true, then some of us would have fins and gills, while others would have horns and tails.

If consuming DNA in cow’s milk gives us “cow-like” behaviour, then logically, the only thing we can consume if we want to remain human would be … HUMAN MEAT. LOL…
