Did Edmonton Fireman Expose CNN Live TV As Fake News?!

Did an Edmonton fireman accidentally expose CNN faking their live TV coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine?!

Take a look at the viral photo, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Edmonton Fireman Exposed CNN Live TV As Fake News!

People are sharing screenshots of a CNN live TV report, as evidence that they are faking their coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In all these screenshots, you can see a fireman wearing an Edmonton uniform.

Why is the Edmonton Fire Department in Lviv?

Truth : Edmonton Fireman Did NOT Expose CNN Live TV As Fake News!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS being shared on social media, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : The CNN Video Was Genuine

The screenshot was taken of CNN’s news report of a Russian missile strike on a fuel storage facility in Lviv, Ukraine on 26 March 2022.

Those who watched their coverage at that time, can clearly see CNN anchor Don Lemon himself standing just outside the fuel storage facility.

The missile strike was also confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense spokesperson, Igor Konashenkov, who said that the cruise missiles targeted fuel supplies for Ukrainian troops.

The video was definitely NOT recorded in Edmonton, Canada.

Fact #2 : Fireman Was Wearing Coat Donated By Edmonton Firefighters

The fireman in the screenshots was wearing a coat donated by firefighters in Edmonton.

The Edmonton-based non-profit organisation, called Firefighter Aid Ukraine, donated several hundred sets of Edmonton firefighter gear to Ukraine, as well as hundreds of similar sets from other communities.

Firefighter Aid Ukraine founder and project director Kevin Royle, who is an Edmonton firefighter himself, confirmed to CNN that that coat “came from our program, most definitely“.

In response to the viral fake news, Firefighter Aid Ukraine posted their Facebook post from 15 September 2017, which showed them donating bunker gear including a coat with the Edmonton logo.

Sharing this post from 2017 when we were distributing donated bunker gear in Lviv. See the “Edmonton” on the back of the jacket? There is no conspiracy. Our firefighter friends and colleagues are in harms way and we will continue to support them. If you or your department have any helmets, boots, bunker gear, etc to donate please reach out to us. The need is greater than ever. #ffaidukraine #ukraine #standwithukraine #fire #firefighter #ukrainefire

Fact #3 : Edmonton Fire Chief Confirmed Donated Gear

Edmonton Fire Chief Joe Zatylny confirmed on 28 March 2022, that the Ukrainian firefighters were wearing Edmonton bunker jackets donated through Firefighter Aid Ukraine.

By now, most of you would have seen the CNN footage of one of our Edmonton bunker jackets in Lviv, Ukraine.

I am grateful to many of our many EFRS members who volunteer for Firefighter Aid Ukraine and Kevin Royle, who has organized the donations of gear to Ukraine since 2016!

Firefighters help those in need and this is a perfect example. Our thoughts and safe wishes continue to be with our brothers and sisters in Ukraine as they continue to help and save their communities.

Now that you know the facts, please help us FIGHT FAKE NEWS by SHARING this fact check out!
