Truth : No Penang Areas Going Under EMCO Because Of Delta Variant!
This is yet another piece of COVID-19 fake news, this time targeting Penang. Here are the FACTS…
Fact #1 : No Penang Areas Going Under EMCO!
On 26 August 2021, Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, the Penang ADUN for Pengkalan Kota, issued a statement that this is fake news, stating that no areas in Penang will be going under EMCO.
Here was his Facebook post, together with our English translation :
Another irresponsible message went viral.
Please take note that the message stating that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (PKPD / EMCO) that would be implemented in several George Town locations are false.
Fact #2 : COVID-19 Spreads Through People, Not Locations
COVID-19 spreads through infected people, not through locations.
If 180 people were really identified in those areas in Penang, they would have been home quarantined, or sent to a quarantine centre.
Once quarantined, they would not have posed any risk to people living in that area, or going to the area.
Fact #3 : George Town Does Not Have Most COVID-19 Cases
Penang is getting hammered by COVID-19 cases, but George Town does not have the most cases. Neither is George Town the only red zone.
If you look at the latest 26 August 2021 statistics for COVID-19 in Penang, you can see that several other areas have more cases than George Town in the last 14 days.
You can also see that most of Seberang Jaya and less than half of Penang Island are red zones.
Now you know the facts, please SHARE this fact check with your family and friends so they won’t get fooled!
Don’t forget to protect yourself and your family by vaccinating against COVID-19! Penang’s vaccination rate is still too low!
