IKEA Damansara : Staff Tests Positive For COVID-19!

On 7 November 2020, IKEA announced that a part-time employee was identified on 6 November 2020 as potentially positive for COVID-19.

This part-time IKEA Damansara employee last worked on 30 October 2020, and was placed “under care of the authorities” while waiting to be tested.

On 12 November 2020, IKEA announced that their employee tested positive for COVID-19.

IKEA Damansara : Closed After Potential COVID-19 Case!

IKEA Damansara : Closed For COVID-19 Sanitisation

In accordance to MOH guidelines, they shut down the store today (7 November 2020) for deep cleaning and sanitisation.

This appears to be a precautionary move, as the part-time IKEA Damansara employee has yet to test positive for COVID-19.

IKEA Damansara will reopen the next day on Sunday, 8 November 2020.

Coincidentally, the diagonally adjoining Tesco Mutiara Damansara is also reopening on Sunday, 8 November 2020, after detecting 48 cases, and shutting down for more than 2 weeks.

IKEA Damansara COVID-19 Case : What’s The Risk?

Now that their employee tested positive for COVID-19, IKEA Damansara will be conducting contact tracing, and those identified as close contacts will be asked to self-quarantine and get tested.

This case reinforces the importance of contact tracing, and the MySejahtera mobile app which logs the movements of its users.

While shopping malls and all other public premises offer physical logbooks, we highly recommend that you use MySejahtera, because it allows for easier and faster contact tracing.

Using MySejahtera also obviates the need to sign a physical logbook, which usually means using a shared pen – an unnecessary risk factor.

COVID-19 is easily destroyed by soap, so the deep cleaning operation will definitely clean the store of any infectious particles.

However, it is critical that you wear a face mask in public at all times, as they greatly reduce the risk of infection.

You should also maintain good hand hygiene by cleaning with soap and water, or a hand sanitiser.

IKEA Damansara : Statements On COVID-19 Case

Here is the official statement on the potential COVID-19 case at IKEA Damansara :

IKEA Damansara: We have been informed on 6 Nov 2020 that one of our part-time co-workers is suspected of Covid-19 and is currently under the care of the authorities waiting to be tested. The co-worker’s last working day was 30 Oct 2020.

The health, safety and overall well-being of our co-workers, customers, partners, and community are our top priorities. As a proactive precautionary measure, our store will be closed on 7 Nov 2020 to undergo sanitisation and deep cleaning, in accordance to MOH’s standards. Our store will resume operations on 8 Nov 2020. We are working closely with the public health officials and will act on their advice.

At IKEA, we will continue to do our part by securing all necessary preventive measures in our stores to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety. These measures include MySejahtera App for contact tracing, social distancing markers, thermal scanners at all entry points and, hand sanitising stations, among others.

We encourage everyone to do their part by supporting and following the Government’s direction to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

And here’s their follow-up statement :

Hej everyone,

We believe it’s important for us to keep things as transparent as possible, and we respect the need for an update on our co-worker’s test results. Our co-worker has tested positive for Covid-19 and is now receiving treatment, having not reported to work since 30 Oct 2020.

All necessary precautionary measures in accordance to the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) standard were completed proactively on Saturday, 7 Nov 2020. These include thorough sanitisation and deep cleaning of the premise and, contact tracing of those who may have been in close contact with the affected co-worker.

Rest assured, co-workers who were in close contact have already been placed on home quarantine, undergone Covid-19 swab tests. Fortunately, all of these co-workers have tested negative. As for our customers, they will be contacted by public health officials if they are considered to be close contacts.

At IKEA, the health, safety and overall well-being of our co-workers, customers, partners, and community is always a top priority. We will continue to work closely with the public health officials and do our part by securing all necessary preventive measures across our stores. These measures include the use of the MySejahtera App for contact tracing, limited capacity into the stores as part of social distancing, social distancing markers, thermal scanners at all entry points, hand sanitising stations, and the compulsory usage of face mask upon entering the store, among others.

The fight against Covid-19 pandemic is a shared responsibility. Let’s do our part by supporting and following the Government’s directions to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Stay safe and take care.
