Jaya Grocer KL East Mall : Security Guard Positive For COVID-19!

On 3 January 2021, Jaya Grocer announced that a security guard at their KL East Mall store just tested positive for COVID-19.

The outsourced security guard has worked at Jaya Grocer KL East Mall on 30 December, and has not been there since 31 December 2020. He also does not share a hostel with Jaya Grocer staff members.

This is reminiscent of their previous COVID-19 exposure in October 2020, which was from a security guard as well.

As a precautionary measure, Jaya Grocer closed their KL East Mall outlet on 3 January 2021, until further notice, for deep cleaning and sanitisation.

They are also sending all their KL East Mall staff and outsourced personnel for a swab test.

Jaya Grocer KL East Mall COVID-19 Case : What’s The Risk?

Jaya Grocer will no doubt be conducting contact tracing, and those identified as close contacts will be asked to self-quarantine and get tested.

This case reinforces the importance of contact tracing, as well as the MySejahtera mobile app which logs the movements of its users.

While shopping malls and all other public premises offer physical logbooks, we highly recommend that you use MySejahtera, because it allows for easier and faster contact tracing.

Using MySejahtera also obviates the need to sign a physical logbook, which usually means using a shared pen – an unnecessary risk factor.

COVID-19 is easily destroyed by soap, so even a simple cleaning operation will definitely clean the store of any infectious particles.

However, it is critical that you wear a face mask in public at all times, as they greatly reduce the risk of infection.

You should also maintain good hand hygiene by cleaning with soap and water, or a hand sanitiser.
