9 yo Lara Thanks Dr. Noor Hisham, This Was His Reply!

The Malaysia Director General of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, is now a national celebrity through his calm, no-nonsense handling of the COVID-19 crisis.

A 9 year-old girl from Terengganu recently sent him a heartwarming thank you note, with a gift. And he wrote back, telling her that one day, it will be her turn to help Malaysia.

Who Is Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah?

Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah was appointed as Malaysia’sDeputy Director-General of Health on 1 February 2008, and became t he Director General of Health on 1 March, 2013.

He is also the current president of the Malaysia Medical Council, as well as a board member of the Drug for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi).

On 19 March 2020, 9 year-old Lara Khadijah McAfee sent Dr. Noor Hisham a Loom Band she made for him, together with this heartwarming letter :

Salam Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah,

My name is Lara Khadijah McAfee and I live in Kuala Terengganu. I am in 3rd grade. I am a student in Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Budiman.

I make Loom Bands for my friends to wear on their wrist as a sign of friendship.

I have made this blue Loom Band for you to thank you for all the work you are doing to help the people of Malaysia to stay safe and healthy during this virus outbreak.

Dr. Noor Hisham’s Heartwarming Reply

Dr. Noor Hisham wrote back to Lara on 16 April 2020, noting that it was a team effort and Malaysian citizens like Lara have been “a wonderful help” by “staying at home”.

He also encouraged her to study hard because one day, it will be her turn “to help Malaysia”.
