MAEPS Converted Into 600-Bed COVID-19 Hospital

The Malaysia Ministry of Health is converting the MAEPS into a temporary COVID-19 hospital, to prepare for the anticipated third wave of cases.

Here is a look inside the conversion of MAEPS into a temporary COVID-19 hospital!

MAEPS Will Be Converted Into COVID-19 Hospital

The Director General of Health Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah today confirmed that the Malaysia Ministry of Health is converting the MAEPS into a temporary COVID-19 hospital.

This is part of their preparation for the anticipated third wave of cases in April.

“Let us prepare for the worst and hope for the best. It’s better to over-prepared than under-prepared, so we will use this as a model for how to utilise an indoor stadium in case we need it.

“The reason is, now we are seeing 150 to 200 cases a day. But if the surge is 1,000 cases per day, then we need to look for beds.”

MAEPS or Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang is a large exhibition venue located on 130 hectares of land belonging to MARDI, the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute.

And here is a great look at the layout of this temporary COVID-19 hospital being set up in MAEPS.

You can see that they are setting up a mix of twin bedrooms and single beds, as well as treatment rooms.

Interestingly, it shows that they are setting up 200 twin bedrooms and 400 single beds, so potentially, it could expand to cope with 800 patients.
