COVID-19 in Malaysia : Schools May Soon Reopen!

Early today (4 June 2020), the Malaysia Deputy Director of Education, Haji Adzman bin Talib, issued a memo instructing all teachers to return to their schools.

COVID-19 in Malaysia : Schools May Reopen Soon!

According to the memo, all teachers have been ordered to return to their workplaces and start work by 8 June 2020 (for schools in Group A states) and 9 June 2020 (for schools in Group B states).

So When Will Schools Reopen?

While teachers will be back to work by next week, it doesn’t mean schools will reopen so soon. The teachers will need to help prepare schools for the new normal of COVID-19 precautions, and that probably includes :

  • social distancing measures, inside and outside of classes
  • preparing hand sanitisers or facilities for washing hands
  • new guidelines for both teachers and students

The government had earlier said that they will give parents 2 weeks advanced notice before reopening schools.

That means the earliest schools will reopen will be 22 / 23 June 2020, but they could also reopen later. It all depends on the community spread of COVID-19 this month.
