The Malaysia Ministry of Education just announced their directive on schools in MCO, CMCO and RMCO areas!
Here is what you need to know about schools in MCO, CMCO and RMCO areas!
MOE Directive On Schools In MCO, CMCO + RMCO Areas!
After the Prime Minister announced the new imposition of MCO, CMCO and RMCO across Malaysia, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced their directive on schools in those areas.
To be clear, this is a brief media statement that will be further clarified and expanded on Tuesday, 12 January 2021.
MOE Directive On Schools In MCO Areas!
Here is the MOE directive on schools in the stricter Movement Control Order (MCO) areas :
Face To Face Teaching Only For Students With Major Exams
Only students facing these 2020 and 2021 major exams will be allowed to attend school, for face-to-face teaching :
- SPM – Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia
- SVM – Sijil Vokasional Malaysia
- SKM – Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia
- STPM – Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia
- STAM – Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia
- DVM – Diploma Vocational Malaysia
The MOE will also allow students with exams for equivalent international exams to attend school as well.
Travel For Boarding / Day Boarding Schools
Students in boarding and day boarding schools, who will be sitting for the major exams listed above, are allowed to return to dormitories starting 16 January 2021.
Special permission letters will be issued by the schools to allow the students to travel inter-state or inter-district to return to their dormitories.
All Other Students : Study At Home
Primary school students and Form 1 through Form 4 students will study at home through the PdPR (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah – Teaching and Learning at Home) starting 20 January 2021.
This also applies to SVM Semester 2 students and DVM Semester 2 students for the year 2020 in vocational colleges.
Special School Admission Assessment (PKSK)
Candidates for the Special School Admission Assessment (Pentaksiran Kemasukan Sekolah Khusus or PKSK) into Form 1 who have not taken the assessment can do so between 20 and 29 January 2021.
For entry into Form 4, the assessments will be held between 15 and 25 February 2021.
Special permission letters will be issued by the MOE for candidates to travel inter-state or inter-district to attend these assessments.
Teachers Must Return To Schools
All teachers must return to their stations in MCO areas before 20 January 2021.
Teachers involved in the SPM / SVM / SKM / STPM / STAM / DVM exams for 2020 and 2021 must teach their students face-to-face.
Special permission letters will be issued by the schools to allow teachers to travel inter-state or inter-district to teach in schools.
Matriculation College Students
Matriculation college students who are already in college will remain there for hybrid studying.
Teacher Training Institutes
All students at Teacher Training Institutes in MCO areas will undergo online learning starting 17 January 2021.
Private Kindergarten
All private kindergartens in MCO areas, that have already been registered with the MOE, may continue teaching face-to-face.
MOE Directive On Schools In CMCO / RMCO Areas!
Here is the MOE directive on schools in the Conditional MCO or Recovery MCO areas :
All Schools Will Operate As Normal
In CMCO and RMCO areas, public schools under the MOE, as well as private schools registered with the MOE, including international schools, can operate according to their own school term calendars.
The MOE also recommends that schools not registered with them, including schools under state governments, should follow the same rule.

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!
Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :
- Avoid suspected cases or disease hotspots, like hospitals, if possible!
- Avoid public events and crowds
- Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
- If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
