When we received the first photos and video, it was “reported” that Motorola Solutions Penang was evacuated due to a suspected COVID-19 case.

COVID-19 Update [URGENT]

We have learnt of an engineer who have recently gotten in contact with a positive COVID-19 patient in KL. While there is no conclusive result at this point, as a safety precaution, the Site Steering Council has decided that all employees and associates should work from home today. All planned events and activities will be cancelled. All meetings should be over Hangout only. Employees and associates must bring their laptops home to resume their work as much as they can.

In tandem, a full site sanitisation will be conducted across all our Penang facilities.

An updated ECOM will be out by 5pm today to determine if employees and associates are allowed to return to work tomorrow. Stay tuned for subsequent updates through ECOMs.

From what we understand, an engineer was probably identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 case. This doesn’t mean he/she is COVID-19 positive, or negative, for the matter.

But as a safety precaution, Motorola Solutions decided to send everyone home so they can properly sanitise all their Penang sites. That sounds like a really smart move to make. Well done, Motorola Solutions.
