Mydin Bukit Jambul announced that they successfully detected and detained a man who had a pink COVID-19 quarantine bracelet!

But please do not be too hasty in your judgement…

 

Mydin Bukit Jambul Caught Man With COVID-19 Bracelet!

On 17 November 2020, the security staff at Mydin Bukit Jambul successfully detected and detained a man who had a pink COVID-19 quarantine bracelet.

They prevented him from entering Mydin Bukit Jambul, and he was later taken away by the police.

While many netizens have condemned him for breaking his COVID-19 home quarantine, many also pointed out that he may not have a choice if his housemates are all also under home quarantine.

We should also point out that the COVID-19 home quarantine rules allow A SINGLE PERSON per household to purchase food and essential supplies, if all other adults in the same house are under quarantine as well.

In such cases, it’s best to let the authorities determine if he was really breaking the rules, or following them to the best of his ability.

 

Mydin Bukit Jambul COVID-19 PUI : Should You Be Concerned?

A person with a pink quarantine bracelet does not necessarily have COVID-19. It merely means they are persons under investigation (PUI) who could potentially be infected.

He appeared to be wearing a face mask, but for some reason, had it taken down in photos. If he wore his face mask at all times and was only asked to take it down for these photos, then the risk would be quite low.

The risk would be even lower if those near him were also wearing face masks.

Mydin Bukit Jambul also cleaned the areas where the man was present. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is easily destroyed by soap, so the risk is minimal.

If he ends up positive for COVID-19, the Ministry of Health will try to trace his close contacts, who will be asked to self-quarantine and get tested for COVID-19.

But most important of all – we need to remember to always wear a face mask in public. Face masks have been proven to prevent the spread and reduce the risk of being infected.

You should also remember to always wash your hands with soap, or use a hand sanitiser.

 

COVID-19 Quarantine Bracelet : What Is It?

The Malaysia Ministry of Health mandates that those who are under quarantine must wear a COVID-19 quarantine bracelet.

Those under quarantine are not just those who came back from overseas. They can include those who had close contact with COVID-19 patients, or are in EMCO areas.

The bracelet will state the place and date of testing. The individual wearing it cannot remove the bracelet, and must stay at home until the quarantine period is over.

The only exception is if they are the head of the household and need to go out to purchase essential supplies. However, this is only if the other adults in the family are also under quarantine.

Despite the perception that COVID-19 quarantine uses pink bracelets, they come in five colours – red, pink, blue, whiteand yellow.

The colour of the bracelet depends on the stock available to a particular District Health Office.

The bracelet can only be cut by authorised officers at the District Health Office, after the wearers have completed their quarantine.

The Malaysia Ministry of Health has called for the public to report those who are seen in public with these quarantine bracelets.

However, the public should not name and shame them online, and just report them to the police, as they may have legitimate reasons to be out, like getting an antibody test.
