Are people in Sabah suing KKM (Malaysia Ministry of Health) for forced vaccination?!

Let’s take a look at that and other claims in a viral video, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : People In Sabah Are Suing KKM For Forced Vaccination!

People are sharing a video on WhatsApp, in which a man, who disguised himself using a face filter, claimed that people in Sabah are suing the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) for forced vaccination. He also makes many claims about the COVID-19 vaccines.

Here is a transcript of the viral video, which is being shared as evidence that COVID-19 vaccines are dangerous and have caused a lot of injuries and deaths.

Finally, you know. I read ah… a group of people from Sabah has finally sued the ministry lah for that forced vaccinations that created a lot of adverse effects to them, and their sickness and deaths.

Finally, it comes lah, you know. I cannot comment too much on it lah, but you know what it’s going to be. There will be more lawsuits against the authorities for this kind of… forced kind of vaccination.

Truth : People In Sabah Were Not Forced To Get Vaccination!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS about the COVID-19 pandemic and the COVID-19 vaccines, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : No Evidence Of Vaccine Lawsuit Against KKM

I should start by pointing out that I cannot find any reference to a vaccine injury or death lawsuit against the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) that was allegedly filed by people in Sabah.

Perhaps that is such a lawsuit. Perhaps one will be filed shortly. People in Malaysia have the right to file lawsuits, regardless of whether they are justified or not. However, I simply cannot find any evidence for such a lawsuit yet.

It is possible that the man in the video read this fake message circulating on WhatsApp. However, that lawsuit was not filed in Sabah, but most likely in Selangor.

Fact #2 : Malaysia Has A COVID-19 Vaccine Injury Fund

Like most countries around the world, Malaysia has a COVID-19 vaccine injury fund.

Established on 21 March 2021, it is called Bantuan Khas Kewangan Kesan Mudarat Vaksin COVID-19 (Special Financial Assistance for COVID-19 Vaccine Adverse Effects), and pays out:

  • RM 50,000 for serious side effects that requires extended hospitalisation
  • RM 500,000 for permanent disability or death from the COVID-19 vaccine

If anyone is injured or dies as a result of the COVID-19 vaccines, the victim or the victim’s family can file for compensation with this fund. There is no need to file a lawsuit (and pay any legal fees) to get compensated.

Fact #3 : WHO Did Not Ban COVID-19 Vaccines

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has not banned any COVID-19 vaccines. The WHO continues to promote access to COVID-19 vaccines globally:

Everyone, everywhere, should have access to COVID-19 vaccines. WHO is determined to maintain the momentum for increasing access to COVID-19 vaccines and will continue to support countries in accelerating vaccine delivery, to save lives and prevent people from becoming seriously ill.

Countries should continue to work towards vaccinating at least 70% of their populations, prioritizing the vaccination of 100% of health workers and 100% of the most vulnerable groups, including people who are over 60 years of age and those who are immunocompromised or have underlying health conditions

Fact #4 : COVID-19 Vaccines Were Proven Safe + Effective

All COVID-19 vaccines underwent large clinical trials and were proven to be safe and effective, before receiving their Emergency Use Authorisation. Hence, the claim that COVID-19 vaccines were never tested is nonsense.

Many of those COVID-19 vaccines eventually received their full FDA approval after many months of post-marketing monitoring.

Fact #5 : Vaccine Makers Never Said Their Vaccines Were Untested

The man in the viral video appears to have “confused” himself with October 2022 testimonial by a Pfizer executive that its COVID-19 vaccine was never tested to “prevent the transmission of COVID-19“.

That is true, because the COVID-19 vaccines were designed primarily to prevent death and hospitalisation from COVID-19. If they prevented transmission – that would have been a nice bonus. But that was never an endpoint in any of the vaccine trials.

In any case, all of the approved COVID-19 vaccines passed their clinical trials successfully. That’s the only way they could get their Emergency Use Authorisation.

Fact #6 : Millions Of People Did Not Die From COVID-19 Vaccines

There is no evidence that millions of people have died from the COVID-19 vaccines. Such massive number of deaths would have been very obvious, and impossible to cover up.

After all, we have all seen the devastation caused by COVID-19 – hospitals and ICUs overwhelmed with dying patients, and mass graves had to be dug to handle the number of dead people. As of 31 May 2023, almost 7 million people were reported to have died from COVID-19 globally, out of over 767 million confirmed cases of COVID-19.

If COVID-19 vaccines did indeed kill millions of people, we would have witnessed a similar disaster – hospital beds and ICUs filled with severely-ill patients, and thousands of people dying every day. Yet, that never happened. The man in the viral video certainly provided no evidence to back up his claims.

Fact #7 : Malaysia Never Mandated COVID-19 Vaccines

The COVID-19 vaccine was never mandated in Malaysia. That’s why approximately 13.8% of the population remains unvaccinated.

While there were travel restrictions during the pandemic, they were long removed. In fact, the Malaysia government announced COVID-19 liberalisation which started on 1 May 2022:

  • unvaccinated individuals to enter all premises
  • face mask was no longer required outdoors
  • inbound travellers no longer needed to test negative for COVID-19
  • all forbidden businesses were allowed to reopen

Fact #8 : Sabah Has Second-Lowest COVID-19 Vaccination Rate

It is also important to note that Sabah has the second-lowest COVID-19 vaccination rate in Malaysia, just ahead of Kelantan. Just over 68% of people in Sabah received at least one dose.

That dispels the claim that people in Sabah were forced to get the COVID-19 vaccine – almost 1 in 3 people in Sabah never received even one dose!
