Robbers Posing As KKM Officers Testing For COVID-19?

A warning about robbers posing as KKM officers testing for COVID-19 has gone viral. Find out what happened, and what the facts really are!

Robbers Posing As KKM Officers Testing For COVID-19?

A picture of a KKM van and three men standing outside a house has been circulating on social media, with claims that they are actually robbers :

These men came to my neighbour’s friend’s house also in S. Alam saying they are fr KKM nak buat Covid19 swab test. Her friend made police report rupanya the van’s plate no. WSB 5323 registered for Myvi.

Pls be careful and inform your parents not to allow anyone to come in. Even Sakai PPE pun jangan bagi mask coz KKM will announce before coming, for mass screening they will do for entire taman.

If individually KKM will contact us before coming.

Dari group taman: hate-hati semla kajan saya baru didatangi oleh gambar diatas… cakap dari KKM … nak ambil sample swab … rupanya bukan dari kesihatan … lepas buat report police … van didaftar atas nombor Myvi.

Hati-hati. Khabarnya sedans akfit di Klang Valley. Hati-hati yang duduk landed property.

No, They Are NOT Robbers Posing As KKM Officers!

Despite what was claimed in those messages, the three men are genuine KKM officers. Even the van is an official KKM van. This reminds us of the claim of robberies using a fake TNB notice

The house owner clarified this in this message (with our English translation) :

Assalamualaikum wbt.

First of all, I am the owner of the house, and would like to apologise for not replying earlier.

The KKM van and men who came yesterday are genuine. They showed their authority cards to my relative (whose quarantine just ended) and only wanted to verify his/her health after he/she came back from Singapore two weeks ago. No swab test was performed.

I hope this clarifies the issue, and there is no further misunderstanding about this case in the community. My apologies once again.

The Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) also declared the claims false, and even lodged a police report.

What Is The SOP For KKM Officers Testing For COVID-19?

Part of the reason why this false claim went viral was because the Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob warned today, that people should be wary of those who come to their homes claiming to perform COVID-19 swab tests.

“The Health Ministry will only go door-to-door to do swab tests if you live in an area where the enhanced MCO is enforced. Otherwise, health authorities will not do this.”

“If there are people who come to the house claiming to be from the ministry and they want to do a swab test on you, do not let them in and lodge a police report so that action can be taken against these unscrupulous people,”

The Malaysia Ministry of Health also clarified that the District Health Office (PKD) will contact you before they come to the house.

To be sure they are genuine KKM officers, make sure you ask them to show their authority cards. If in doubt, please contact KKM or the police, to verify their authenticity.
