The Sarawak Disaster Management Council (SDMC) just announced a new COVID-19 quarantine policy that will kick off in August 2020! Here are the details…

With the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Sarawak, the Sarawak Disaster Management Council (SDMC) just announced a new quarantine policy that will start in August 2020.

Malaysian Citizens From Other States

From 1 August 2020 until 14 August 2020, all Malaysian citizens travelling from the Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan to Sarawak will be quarantined in a hotel upon arrival.

A sample will be taken from them on the second day of their arrival, and they will be allowed to leave their quarantine if the results of their COVID-19 PCR test comes back negative.

If you are a Sarawakian, the government of Sarawak will pay for the cost of your quarantine.

Malaysian Citizens / Foreigners From Overseas

The existing policy for Malaysian citizens or foreigners travelling to Sarawak from overseas still stands.

  • 14-day compulsory quarantine in a hotel
  • a PCR swab will be taken on arrival
  • a second PCR swab will be taken before Day 14 of the compulsory quarantine

If you are a Sarawakian, the government of Sarawak will pay for the cost of your quarantine.

Other New COVID-19 Policies For Sarawak

The Sarawak Disaster Management Council (SDMC) also announced that they will introduce new measures to combat the surge in COVID-19 cases :

  • controlling travel between districts
  • reducing the number of flights
  • reducing business operation hours

In addition, the Kuching Sarawak Polytechnic will further delay the start of the June 2020 session :

  • Semester 1 (about 825 students) : registration originally scheduled from 3 to 7 August 2020
  • Semester 2 to 5 (3538 senior students) : registration originally scheduled from 7 to 8 August 2020

 

COVID-19 : How To Keep Safe!

Here are a few simple steps to stay safe from COVID-19 :

  • Avoid suspected cases or disease hotpots, like hospitals, if possible!
  • Avoid public events and crowds
  • Keep our hands clean with soap or hand sanitiser
  • Keep our home, office, vehicles, etc. clean
  • If you need to wear a surgical mask, make sure you put it on and remove it properly!
  • Wash your food with water (and soap) after purchase and before preparation
