Believe it or not, Shell has been in Malaysia for a whopping 125 years! To celebrate their 125th year, Shell Malaysia unveiled “Celebrating 125 Years” – an art project involving famous Malaysian artists like Datuk Lat, Cheeming Boey, Yap Hanzhen (an autistic savant artist), Amey Sheikh Ali, Caryn Koh, Thomas Powell and Dmojo, as well as Madrid-based Sabek.
Celebrating 125 Years Through Art
The eight artists created 15 murals at selected Shell stations nationwide, with at least one mural in every state. They were asked to create those murals to showcase their interpretation of progress in Malaysia, and the Malaysian pioneering spirit. Some chose to illustrate familiar Malaysian scenes and landmarks. Others highlighted Malaysian nature and society.
